aged 95 passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013. She was born in Chicago, IL, on July 5, 1917, to Samuel and Justine Marinoff, who had immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine. She enjoyed relating stories of her childhood and teenage years in Chicago, such as her fond memory of the 1933 World’s Fair, where she worked after being selected by Stewart Warner to be on an assembly line to demonstrate the production of speedometers. While there, she had the opportunity to exchange a few words with visitors such as Henry Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt. She also enjoyed her job as a telephone operator in the LaSalle Hotel.
She married her husband Walter in 1940, and they lived in Chicago until they and their two young sons moved to a suburb of Buffalo, NY, in 1950. Dori worked there as the manager of a school cafeteria, retiring when she and Walter moved to Boston, MA, in 1972. After Walter’s retirement in 1974, they went to Tucson, AZ, with the intent to reside there. However, it was too far from their children who had relocated to the Midwest after college, so they moved to Indianapolis, which was warmer than the other alternative, Minnesota.
Family was always the primary focus for Dori. She was a very loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never met a stranger, always looked for the best in each person, and had kind words for everyone. Her ever-present smile, positive attitude, and genuine love will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Walter, and by her brother, Paul, and sister, Ann Chuba Lesk, both of Sun City, AZ. She is survived by her sons Terry (Pat) of Indianapolis and John Roger (Martha) of Northfield, MN; grand-daughters Emily Pailthorpe (Daniel) of London, England, Lori Wiegand (Douglas) of New Palestine, Anne Paas of New York City, and Lisa Steele (John) of Chicago; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with visitation from 9:30 till service time. Entombment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church. Services entrusted to Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Condolences may be offered at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com.
