Doris Jean Wiegand passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, Saturday, February 27th at 11:20 a.m., surrounded by family and friends. There will be a private celebration of life held on Monday, March 1st at 3:30 p.m. in Indianapolis, Indiana - Dr. Shan Caldwell will be officiating. A public graveside service will be conducted in East Peoria, Illinois at a later time, where Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband, Paul Wiegand. The date and additional details will be communicated once they are confirmed.
Doris Jean Wiegand was born on November 1st, 1926 to Albert and Ella VonBergen in Fairbury, Illinois. Doris and Paul Wiegand were married on June 29th, 1946. Paul died on October 5th, 1967. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosy Mowery and Alberta Hurt, and her brother Robert VonBergen. She is survived by her brother Howard VonBergen.
In the early 1980’s she gave her life to Jesus and was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Doris loved her family and friends well - especially being a wife, mom, and grandma. She connected with immediate and extended family and friends throughout the years – especially on their birthdays, Christmas and in between with thoughtful cards, visits, and phone calls.
She loved to volunteer for Little Lambs at church and Camp All-American, garden, embroidery, watch St. Louis Cardinals baseball, journal, read scripture, listen to country music and bowl. She was inducted into the Central Illinois Bowling Hall of Fame. She also taught junior bowling for years.
Doris will always be best remembered for her gift of hospitality, entertaining and open-door policy. She loved her home on Oakwood Road in East Peoria, Illinois. Over the years she held family reunions, birthday parties, holiday get togethers and entertained hundreds of people - who would often gather in the backyard at her swimming pool.
She and Paul had 2 children - Paula (Fred) of Evergreen, Colorado, and Steve (Ann) of Morton, Illinois. In addition - 4 grandchildren - Scott (Deanna), Chad (Kylee), Erik (Steph) Kyle Danner (Brecken) 8 great grandchildren: Sydney, Jimmy, Tristen, Trevor, Jacob, Will, Morgan, Tyler.
2 great great grandchildren: Estelle (Stella) and Charlotte (Charlie)
Doris met with her pastor several times in the final months of her life. When he asked her how she would want to be remembered, she said, “I hope everyone would know that I love Jesus, my family and friends, the St. Louis Cardinals and Blake Shelton.” She kept her love of life and keen sense of humor until the end.
