Dorothy devoted her life to caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren, always placing her family at the center of everything she did. She served as the administrator for the Washington Township Fire Department for many years before her retirement. A devoted member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for many years before becoming a devoted member at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Dorothy generously gave her time as a Eucharistic Minister and faithfully brought communion to residents of Hooverwood Assisted Living for many years. She also served the parish as a funeral sacristan. Deeply committed to helping others, Dorothy supported Birthline by lovingly sewing more than 150 baby blankets for families in need.
Dorothy loved telling stories about her childhood. These included her father, single handedly building their house in Canal Fulton, along with houses for his mother, a neighbor, and renovating a house for a friend. Some of those houses are still standing today. Her father owned an ice cream shop with a soda fountain when they moved to Chicago. Dorothy spent a lot of time there and befriended four older boys who were later drafted during WWII. She remained a pen pal with one of the boys throughout his time at war. One of her favorite memories was taking dance lessons with three of her friends. They were known as the Four Little Sweethearts. Her favorite performance was to the song “Me and My Shadow” where her teacher danced on stage while she was behind a backlit screen dancing, after which she burst through the screen and danced behind him. Dorothy was a sweet lovely woman who enjoyed giving her family glimpses of her life in an earlier time.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband George Mally, Jr. and her second husband Andrew Davey; her daughter-in-law, Jane Mally, her granddaughter, Charity Mally, great-grandson, Nathaniel Mally, brother, Charles Smith, Jr. and her sister Marie Utter.
