

Accepting Christ at an early age, she became a member of St. John A.M.E church under the pastorage of Rev John Perry.
Dorothy attended School # 26 for her elementary education and continued her education receiving her high school Diploma from Crispus Attucks High School class of 1948.
Upon completion of High School, she joined the workforce as a payroll clerk at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Demonstrating her ability to be a great employee, she accepted a position with the Internal Revenue, located in Chicago Illinois. There she retired after 43 years of service. After retiring she decided to return home to Indy to care for her mother.
Knowing she needed a church home Dorothy joined Eastern Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jeffrey Johnson. She was a dedicated and faithful member at Eastern Star for 30 years. Her dedication and faithfulness allowed her to be a member of the Ladies-in-White-where her duties included preparing The Lord’s Supper. She was a volunteer for the Volunteer Care Center and a member of the Link Ministry, Senior Saints and Barnabas.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents James and Elizabeth Tanner. Her son Steven A. Daniels, three brothers James Gaylor, Gerald Tanner and Harry Tanner. Her memory will always be cherished by her daughter Joyce (Rukiya Radford) (Gerald Radford). Grandsons Troy B. Hayes, Damon I. Hayes (Erica Anderson). Granddaughter Rukiya Daniels. Great grandchildren, Macee E. Hayes, and Korell Walton. Special family friend Valerie Baxter and a host of family and friends.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
