Dorothy Mae Gaines

Dorothy Mae Gaines, 86, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on May 11, 2021 in Indianapolis, IN. Dorothy was born in Trenton, KY to Miles and Joella Samuels on March 25, 1935. She went to school in Hopkinsville, KY. She married John C. Gaines on November 7, 1959 in Indianapolis, IN. She Graduated from Crispus Attucks High School, Class of 1954. She worked as an Environmental Specialist for Indiana University Hospital for 17 years. She was an avid family woman who loved spending time loving on her family and making them laugh for hours on end. Dorothy is preceded in death by: Her husband John C. Gaines, mother Joella Samuels, and father Miles Samuels. She is survived by: Two daughters, Sherra (Carl) Hunt and Annetta Gaines; Two sisters, Catherine Conn and Elizabeth Wright; Four Grandchildren Desmond(Theressa) Hall, Charles T. Lane, Chara(Jon) Harris, and Rashad Ellis; and four great grandchildren Charles J. Lane, Jonas N. Harris, Jenna G.M. Harris, and Giovanna C. Lane, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10:00am on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, with funeral services and burial to follow.
