Douglas Eugene Smith

Douglas was born on July 31st of 1943 in Richlands, Virginia to Eugene Jennings (Jack) and Lonia Marie Smith. He attended Richlands High School and went on to serve in the US Army which included two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 24 years. He went on to become The Cabinet Doctor for 16 years, beautifying so many homes and doctor’s offices in the Pensacola area. He then retired from Baptist Hospital in Pensacola where he served as an Armed Security Guard in the ER Department for 13 years.

Douglas was known for his love for God along with his adventurous, stubborn (it’s a Smith thing), and silly personality. From jumping out of airplanes while serving in the Army, to racing dog sleds and snow mobiles in Alaska. He loved playing tennis and golf. Riding his Goldwing motorcycle across the country multiple times and meeting up with his group of friends at Hardees for breakfast. Douglas was loved by many as he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who was in need.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents Jack and Marie, his brother Bobby Smith, daughter Anita Smith, and grandson Jay Doerr.

Doug is survived by his children son Tony (Bernie) of Brownsburg, IN, son Craig (Anne) of Jacksonville, FL, daughter Kristi of Fishers,IN, daughter Lori Anne (Marlon) of Cynthiana, KY, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sister Loretta, brother Ricky (Margaret), sister Sue, brother Donnie, sister Robin and many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory forever.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 12-2pm at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery followed by a full Military Honors burial at Crown Hill Cemetery at 2PM. Douglas's kindness, love, and impact on those around him will never be forgotten. He is already deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
