
Durmon was born in Troy, North Carolina on March 15th, 1945 to Durmon J. Jones Sr. and Alice Oteila Jones Ellerbe, who proceeded him in death. Durmon was raised by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ellerbe Lillie. He married Jennifer Thompson 1966, in their union he had two daughters Patricia Jones and Bridgette Jones. Durmon also leaves to cherish his children Pam Jones and Durmon Green. In 1986, Durmon met the love of his life Rhonda Jones Burnett who he married in 2003 in Indianapolis, IN.
He attended school at Academy Heights Elementary School in Pinehurst, NC until 11th grade. His high school basketball coach Mr. Chadwick transferred to Mineral Springs in Ellerbe, NC for his senior year. Coach Chadwick thought highly enough of Durmon to have him come along. He lived with Coach Chadwick until he graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1963. Durmon was given a scholarship offer to play basketball at IU. He was an Army veteran of the [Vietnam War 1966 - 1968] and served as a Drill Sergeant. After honorably serving his country, he worked as a supervisor at Urban Renewal for the City of Indianapolis pursuing building contracts for ten years. During this time, he earned a degree in Business Administration. Durmon also established Jones Lions and Associates.
From an early age, Durmon started to build. He loved building and engineering. It took 4 years for him and his Granddaddy (Daddy) to build the house that he grew up in. He was 6 years old when they finished. Throughout his childhood, he was taught by his grandparents and worked alongside his Granddaddy often helping and willing to assist while developing skilled trades. As his years went on, he eventually started his construction business in 1979, Durmon Jones Associates. He was in business for over 40 years. Durmon was a mentor and an advocate to many, whether it was business or on a personal level. He was recognized for outstanding and exceptional masonry all over the mid-west. Durmon led several projects on church building missions in Guatemala and locally. He was a trailblazer.
Durmon professed Christ at an early age and was Baptized in 1990 at St. John AME.
Durmon enjoyed fishing; visiting family in North Carolina; spending time with his wife, practicing playing his saxophone; working on cars and trucks; enjoyed watching western cowboy shows; and many sports.
Durmon is preceded in death by Daughter - Patricia Hill. Brothers - Lindell Bob, James Anthony, Ralph Paul, Danny Eugene
Durmon is survived by wife – Rhonda Jones; Durmon Jones Jr.; Bridgette Jones; Pam Jones (Berry) Darren Wyatt (Kiyomi). He leaves to mourn: Will A. Jones, Randell L. Jones, Jennifer L. Rhodes of Indianapolis. He leaves to mourn: Verlina Rhodes, Shelia Colvin of Minnesota. Living Aunts: Aunt Thelma; Aunt Inez, Aunt Kathleen, Aunt Monnie and a host of Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends
