Obituary of Earl Lee Griffin Jr.
Mr. Earl Lee Griffin Jr. was born October 26, 1926 in Edwards, Mississippi to the late Earl Lee and C.C. (Gilmore) Griffin. He was the eldest of their three children. He moved to Indianapolis and had 1 daughter, Eloise. He met Eunice (Dean) and married March 4, 1950. Of this union 7 children were born. He served as a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church. “Jr.” as he was called by most family and friends, was also affectionately called “Uncle Foot’s” by his nieces & nephews. He retired from Link-Belt Company in 1985. In his spare time, you found him at his garage in his coveralls piddling around “Griffin & Sons Auto Repair Shop” while ruling the traffic in the alley and the neighborhood. He taught all his sons and some grandsons how to repair and take care of their cars. He was a father/grandfather to many of his children’s and grandchildren’s friends in the neighborhood. He loved to travel back home to Edwards, MS to visit family and friends. He didn’t hesitate to drive to Gary, IN to see his sister, Robbie or to Milwaukee, WI to see his other sister, Carrie Mae. He enjoyed gardening, making homemade wine, and just hanging out in his garage with family and friends. He owned property what felt like half the neighborhood, so you’d often find him riding his lawn mower cutting grass or even on the westside cutting the grass at his mother’s house. He was very stern and set in his ways, but he was a hard worker who took care of his family. He was always willing to help family, friends and even strangers but you better have been prepared to hear what he had to say about it no matter WHO you were!! He was preceded in death by his parents, two uncles: Sherman Finley & Robert Moore; two sisters: Carrie Mae Jude & Robbie Lee Thomas, eldest stepdaughter: Ruby Jane Smith, son: Walter Griffin and his beloved wife of 70+ years, Eunice Griffin. After 2 years, 3 months and 16 days, without his wife, Earl Lee Griffin Jr departed this life at the age of 95 on January 10, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory with 2 daughters: Eloise Moore (Phillip) and Sylvia Griffin; 5 sons: Earl Lee III, Curlee (Dee), Kenneth, Tommy, and Steven; stepdaughter, Osa Ford (Chicago, IL); Aunt: Millie Moore; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other loving relatives and friends.
