Eileen B. Kempainen Wallace

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt entered our Lord’s Heavenly kingdom on January 30, 2011. Eileen was the second of five children born March 29, 1922 to August and Sophia Kempainen in Dollar Bay, Michigan. Eileen was raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She graduated from Suomi College and moved to Lansing Michigan to work for the state of Michigan. Eileen met the love of her life and she and Charles “Whitey” Wallace were married in 1944. Their marriage took them from Michigan to Seattle, Washington back to Michigan and finally to Indiana. Eileen settled in to homemaking and parenting. When Whitey was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, Eileen became his caregiver and his voice. Eileen honored the time they had together. When she was widowed, an entirely different life evolved. Eileen began walking with friends, water exercising at the "Y" and spending time with her family. Eileen enjoyed her three surviving children Marilyn (Mark) Gault Braun, Karen (Bruce) Alexander Placek, Dennis Charles (Diane) Wallace. Her daughter Marlene Wallace Wilhelm passed away in 2003. Eileen is also survived by her sisters Ruth (Roy) Tuovila and June Drew, her favorite and only granddaughter, Christine (John) Nation, her grandsons Benjamin Gault, James Braun, David Braun, Brian (Elke) Alexander, Andrew (Natalie) Placek, Brent (Jamie) Wilhelm, Tyson (Annie) Wilhelm, Charles Wallace, Matthew Wallace. She is also survived by her 12 great grandchildren and was looking forward to number 13 in March. She is also preceded in death by her grandsons Scott Alexander, Jacob Braun, sister Alice Dault, brother David Kempeinen. Eileen was a lifelong Lutheran and a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 4 at 10 am at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2210 East 106th Street, Carmel, Indiana. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 3, from 4- to 7 pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 71st & Keystone. Memorial contributions in Eileen’s name may be made to King of Glory Lutheran Church. Eileen’s family is grateful for the loving care she received at The Forum, Community North Hospital 3rd floor staff, Community Hospice and each caregiver that gently and lovingly cared for her these past two months.
