Elder Robert Lewis Carey, Sr. was born April 24, 1932 in Christian County, Kentucky. He was one of fifteen children born to Brager and Zadie Tandy Carey. The Carey family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana where Elder Carey enjoyed a wonderful life.
Elder Carey was baptized at an early age and was raised with Christian principles. Later in life he was baptized in Jesus' name at Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church where he received the gift of the Holy Ghost. After receiving his call to the ministry, he served some of our city's greatest pastors and churches, as well as walking in ministry with his brothers, the late Elder James E. Carey and- Elder Dannie Carey, working for the Lord. He was very proud of his nursing home and senior's ministry, and was a blessing to many who could not attend church. His mission was to witness and win souls for Christ.
Elder Carey worked hard to provide a home for his family, and dearly loved his wife, Emmalene, who he affectionately called "Mrs. Carey". He always spoke highly of his son Bobby and wife Effie. He retired from Allison Transmission in 1997 after working there for over thirty years. If you needed him, he would give you his last. His mother and father, Brager and Zadie Tandy Carey, along with his stepfather, Deacon James Flowers, and thirteen Carey brothers and sisters have preceded him in eternity.
Elder Robert Lewis Carey, Sr. is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Emmalene Lane Carey, his son Robert Lewis (Bobby) Carey, Jr. (Effie Carey), brother Wesley Carey, stepbrother James Flowers, and stepsisters Mary Lou Hinkle and Sadie Bell Milton, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends. The visitation is Saturday, December 17, 2016, 10am - 12pm, with the Homegoing Celebration commencing at 12pm at Mt. Calvary Apostolic Church, 6635 E. 42nd Street. The entombment will immediately follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
