Elizabeth Alexander Allemenos was born to Greek immigrants Harry and Chryssanthy (Chirpas) Alexander in Indianapolis on December 6, 1921 and left this earthly life on July 15, 2011. In her 89 ½ years, she graduated from Butler University in 1943, owned a successful hardware store and traveled the world. She parasailed with grand-daughter Stephanie over the Mediterranean Sea, survived a cyclone at the Great Barrier Reef with grandsons Nick and Alex and white water rafted in Colorado and West Virginia. She enjoyed over 35 winters on Sanibel Island, as well as other wonderful adventures with family and friends. She was a long time volunteer at St Vincent Hospital and passionately supported the arts. She loved the opera, Jeopardy and Scrabble.
Her deepest regrets were the early death of her husband, Nicholas G Allemenos, the tragic deaths of grandchildren Nicholas and Lisa Allemenos, loss of brother Constantine "Deno" Alexander, her fun loving sisters-in-law Georgia Alexander and Mary Alexander and brother-in-law John Zarvas. Her children, Jody McFarland and George Allemenos, as well as her sister, Helen Zarvas and brother, Joe Alexander will miss her company, wit and wisdom. She is survived by her adoring grandchildren Stephanie Elizabeth (AJ) Canty and Alexander (Kate) McFarland and three of the cutest great-grandsons ever, Liam and Gavin Canty and Tanner McFarland. "Aunt Diz" also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and many life long friends.
Viewing will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 West 38th Street, on Thursday, July 21st from 4¬-8 pm with Trisagion service at 7:30 pm. The funeral will be on Friday, July 22nd at 10 am. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Your prayers and thoughts are appreciated. While flowers are lovely, she would have appreciated a contribution to your favorite charity in her name. May her soul rest in peace.
