

78, of Carmel, departed this life Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Betty was born September 29, 1935 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Edwin and Caroline (Lavaggi) Strassel. She was a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church and frequently volunteered her time and resources to many charitable organizations over the years. She was a volunteer in the gift shop at St. Augustine Home for the Aged for over 20 years, and also volunteered as a “Pink Lady” for the St. Vincent Hospital Guild. Betty was a member of the Serra Club and the Women's Committee of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Betty was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth J. Matthews, Sr. and one sister and two brothers. Betty is survived by her husband, Hugh R. Sullivan; children, Terri Davis, Judi (David) Lewis, Kenny Matthews, Libbi (Jeff) Rodefeld, Monica (Clint) Sommer and John (Denise) Matthews; step-children, Hugh Sullivan III, Kathleen (Greg) Sullivan Smith, Mark (Jeanine) Sullivan, Marianne Roan and Kevin (Ann) Sullivan; brother, Thomas (Marty) Strassell; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and dear friends. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220, Sunday, December 22, at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary 71st and Keystone). Mass of Christian Burial will be held celebrated at 11:30 am, Monday, December 23 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holiday Drive E. Indianapolis, IN 46260.
