Elsie Golc Elder, 97, our beloved Mother, our lucky star and loving mentor to so many, passed away on Jan 22, 2025.
Elsie is now reunited in Heaven with her Husband of 61 yrs, Jack and two Daughters: Nancy Krekel and Sarah Elder, along with her Sisters: Josephine Hornbach, Vickie Bardy, Molly Green, and Brother, Joseph Golc. We know her heavenly music track is her favorite song: “What A Wonderful World”. The lyrics beautifully described her outlook on life.
Born Nov 25, 1927, in Haughville, Indianapolis to her parents Amelia Metelko Golc and Joseph Golc Sr. Elsie graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School and St. Mary Academy. Elsie enjoyed her Slovenian heritage, sharing many good times celebrating at the NASH with dear family and friends. Elsie made her house a home with her excellent cooking, lots of reading material, her rose plants, and array of family dogs and bird feeders.
Elsie was always civic minded, in service for others. She was a founding member at St. Matthew Catholic Church and School, and a long-time volunteer at St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center. She worked at the Election Polls for years. Once her kids were grown, Elsie was employed by Noble of Indiana as a teacher aide, helping individuals with disabilities. Once retired, Elsie supported her local Fishers Church, St. Louis de Montfort, and their Food Pantry.
She also volunteered at the Fishers Public Library. She always enjoyed being part of a team and group with a common goal of good. And if you added a side trip to a casino for penny slots, she was there for you!
Elsie’s bowling ball included the Cubs logo and served her well from the 1960s - 1990s with her long-time group; The Devonettes Women’s Bowling League. Elsie was a voracious reader who went to the public library weekly. She could easily do crossword puzzles and correctly answer Double Jeopardy. Her only regret was not making it to 100 and having her photo on a Smuckers jelly jar.
She also leaves behind a heck of a lot of love.
Daughters: Barbara Fisher (Dan) Camby, IN., Ann Coy (Jerry) Knoxville, TN., Beth Molina (Joe), Carmel, IN. Sons: John Elder, Indianapolis IN., Chris Elder (Sherri), Noblesville, IN. Son-in-Law: Kurt Krekel, Hamilton, IL. And cherished extended family members that include Sister-in-Law: Doris Golc, and many dear Nieces and Nephews.
Elsie was adored by babies and children of all ages. She always had a full toy box and baseball cards waiting for the Grandkids. Her baseball card collection could have its own wing at Cooperstown. She spoiled her Grandchildren rotten and then sent them home sugared up and well loved. She leaves behind numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, many with dental bills.
Tremendous heartfelt thanks go to the “Angels” that are the Memory Care Staff at Traditions at Solana, who are truly compassionate including Barb Waggoner the Activity Director and Tina Jordan at the Front Desk. These also include her long-time amazing Aide, Shirley Williams, and her exceptional hospice nurse Gloria Cooper both from Heartland Hospice.
Be it known; Anheuser-Busch have sent their condolences with a beautiful wreath of flowers in honor of Elsie’s long-time commitment to promote Michelob Ultra.
Our Mom was a model of strong will and determination right up to the end of her journey. She would not want us to give her a lot of fanfare, but Mom, we wanted you to be recognized because you made it all, "A Wonderful World!"
