Erika was born in Daugavpils, Latvia to Janis and Anastasia Steins on January 24, 1930.
While raising her family, Erika spent several years working in the medical field and later with the Indianapolis Public Library.
Erika was proud of her Latvian heritage serving in various administrative and leadership positions with the Latvian Lutheran Church, Latvian Welfare Organization and Camp Garezers. She loved to sing and for over 30 years was a member of the Latvian choir and IDVASA Women's Choir.
Erika is preceded in death by her Husbands Mintauts Jansons and Markus Vitolins.
Erika is survived by her sons Uldis Jansons and Gunvids (Michele) Jansons and her daughters Anita (Robert) McArty and Regina (Terry) Dean. Erika was deeply loved by her grandchildren Andrea (Bryan) Sower, Brent (Amanda) Polzin, and great-grandchildren Miles, Sophia, Emma, and Brady. Great Aunt Erika will be lovingly remembered by Rachel (Elijah) Diehr, Mason, and Ethan Irbe and her Goddaughter Nora Cerins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Latvian Community Center 1008 W 64th Street, Indianapolis, IN. Guests are invited to join the family after the service to share fond memories and a meal in remembrance of Erika. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made to the Latvian Lutheran Church, Latvian Community Center, Daugavas Vanagi or Garezers.
