Gene was born to Eugene Wolf and Mary Anne Marchino Witchger on January 21, 1963 in Indianapolis, IN. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career in Roanoke VA, where he met his wife Edith Boehling Witchger. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this year. In their time together they raised 7 beautiful children; Eugene (Jolin); Holton (Julie); Peter (Katrina); Joseph (Rachel); Elizabeth (James Fallon); Catherine (Michael Gladstone); Samuel (Emma Daly). He is also survived by his 11 beloved grandchildren who adored their Papa; Hudson, Vivian, Mackenzie, Genevieve, James, Johnny, Gene, Luke, June, Eleanor, and Lucy. He is also survived by his father Eugene Witchger and 4 siblings Ann (Torsten) Busch, Mary Beth (Greg) Mugnier, Wendy (George) Wade, and Brian (Tara) Witchger.
Gene was an amazing mechanical leader. He helped found the modern version of Marian Incorporated where he worked for 28.5 years and helped drive a single location company into becoming a 13 location global leader in its industry. His accomplishments in his career were numerous but his life was dedicated to much more. Gene was first and foremost a loyal servant to God. His deep devotion to Jesus and his family centered his life. A lover of nature, Gene's many unique hobbies included shark tooth hunting, astronomy, propagating plants and trees, cooking, and fly fishing. He could identify any tree, flower, fish or bird in any part of the world he traveled. He studied the lives of Catholic Saints and lived a life centered around Jesus and the Holy Family. Gene was innovative and a born problem-solver but will be most remembered for modeling how to love one another. He cared for you the way he wanted you to care for others. Saint Francis summed up Gene’s life best:
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Pius X Church (7200 Sarto Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46240) at 2:00PM Wednesday December 28, 2022 with a celebration of life gathering at the Knights of Columbus (2100 East 71st Street) to follow.
