Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery
Everlene Petty Brewer, daughter of Anna Kate (Davis) and Price Petty, Sr., was born on July 10,1942 in West Point, Mississippi. She was the 9th born of 12 brothers and sisters. Everlene and her family moved to Indianapolis when she was eleven years old. She was a student in the Indianapolis Public Schools System, attending John Hope School #26 and graduating from Arsenal Technical High School.
Everlene was a devoted mother to her two children Bryant Keith Brewer and Pamela Brewer, whom she loved with her whole heart. Her children were the light of her life. She was the central figure in their lives, and she cherished her relationships with them. She also raised her great-grandson, Demiris Kerr, Jr., who predeceased her. A woman of faith, Everlene joined Light of the World Christian where she accepted Christ as her personal savior.
Everlene worked for Allison Transmission on the production line for 36 years, retiring in 2005. Over the years she established strong friendships with numerous co-workers that lasted well after retirement. She never met a stranger. Everlene loved people and built a community of friends everywhere she went including the “Ticket House”. She was fondly known around town as Ms. E.
Cooking was Everlene’s passion. She loved to cook, and her table was open to everyone she met.
Everlene had a special gift of keeping her large, extended family of siblings and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all connected through the dinners she prepared on Sundays and holidays. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends gathered in her home eating food she prepared with love. However, the rule was nobody could eat until her beloved brother, Bill, arrived!
When Everlene cooked, she fed both the body and the soul. She often shared a word of wisdom to carry you through the next week. Everlene was regularly sought after to cook for other people, including many VIPs, for their birthday celebrations and holidays. She was known for her famous sweet potatoes that tasted like candy. On Sundays it was not uncommon to leave her home stuffed to the gills and most of the time with a to-go container for your next few meals. In fact, her motto was, “Get whatever you want. I bet you can’t eat it all.”
Everlene loved to laugh. She had big sense of humor and loved to hold court at each gathering sharing stories centered around laughter. She also enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and was constantly checking on her family and friends. Additionally, Everlene was meticulous about her appearance. She was a connoisseur of beauty. She made sure she always kept her hair and nails done, she loved an extra sparkle in her jewelry and attire, and she loved her fine fragrances.
Everlene went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the age of 80 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Price and Anna Kate Petty; her brothers, Price, Jr., Jimmy, Leroy, Robert, and Jesse Petty; her sisters, Ivy Mae Smith, Lillie Rupert, Christine Jones, Edna Cooperwood, and Kattie Lee.
To cherish her memory and celebrate her life she leaves her son, Bryant Keith Brewer (Cynthia Brown); daughter, Pamela Brewer; brother, William Petty (Michelle); grandchildren Demiris Kerr, Sr., Kionnia Brewer-Bryant (Michael), Monique Brewer, Jordy Davis, and Malik Harris, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
