Obituary of Gaye Frances Caldwell-Kent
Gaye Frances Caldwell-Kent , was born April 7, 1951 in Greenville, Alabama to the late Henry Caldwell II and S.E. Peagler Caldwell. Gaye graduated from Greenville Training School in 1969. She continued her education at Alabama State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973. She was a science teacher at Winterboro High School and R L Norris Elementary School. After joining the U.S Army via direct commission, she attended and completed several schools, leadership and management courses that prepared her for advancement and success. An Army Ready Reserve Officer and American patriot Gaye served in Army Communications Maintenance and later was the Executive Officer in a Communications unit.Throughout her career she as able to rise through the officer ranks. Starting at the rank of 2nd Lt., she ultimately achieved the rank of Major. In addition to all of that, she was the first female assigned as Training Officer in an all-male basic training unit while at Fort Gordon, Georgia. She chose to retire in 2011 bringing an end to an exemplary military career. While serving her military through the Army Reserve, she began work in 1979 at Allison/Rolls Royce. She was a supervisor in several departments until she retired 2007. She continued working part time at H&R Block. In later retirement years she found a passion in driving for LYFT. Gaye met Willie Earl Kent Sr. in 1991. They shared many adventures together and travelled to exciting places. They got married in 2001 and continued to make memories and enjoy their lives together until Willie was called home in 2016. Gaye had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed traveling, making jewelry, gardening, photography, music and cooking. Gaye especially enjoyed genealogy and being the family historian. She had a zest for life and often put others before herself. Many people remember her for being very giving, supportive, and loving with a heart of gold. Gaye was preceded in death by both parents: husband, Willie Earl Kent Sr., brothers Fred Caldwell, Ezell Caldwell, Donald Caldwell, and Henry Caldwell. Another saint was called home on October 17, 2020 at the age of 69 years. She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory: daughter Taveta Caldwell Debrow (Rodney); stepdaughter Denise Kent and stepson Willie Earl Kent Jr. (Laurie); Brother Charlie Caldwell (Rose); grandchildren Imani, Evita, Donovan, Bryant, Brittany, and Devon; devoted cousin Dean Caldwell, and a host of other family and friends.
