

79, passed away peacefully at his home in Indianapolis on July 12. He was born in Indianapolis on January 23, 1943, to the late John B. and Bessie Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis and served in the Army. He worked for 42 years at Allison Transmission in heat treat, retiring in 2004.
An avid sportsman, in his younger years Gene could often be found on the basketball and tennis courts of Ben Davis. Later, known by most by his nickname, "Cool Guy", he enjoyed spending time at Western Bowl and Buffer Park Golf Course. He was a proficient musician and loved playing his guitar, as well as dabbling in photography.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Brad) Bowman and son, Christopher (Holly) Cooper; grandchildren Madisyn and Nikolas Bowman, Kylie (Tim) Szilveszter, Katie Cooper and Drew Cooper; great-grandchildren Hunter and Sawyer Szilveszter; and sisters JoAnn Calvin and Shirley Wayman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Bill, Bob, Chuck, John and Richard, and sisters Mary and Betty.
Per Gene's request, there will be no services, however, there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering at the Buffer Park Golf Course Clubhouse-Lower Level, 3825 Foltz St. Indianapolis, IN 46221 on Thursday, July 21st, from 6pm-8pm.
