Time passes far too quickly. We spend our days with mundane tasks of life. But every once in awhile, life is enriched by one's coming into contact with a person that changes your life for ever after. George Hill was one of those persons. I left a message here before the visitation and his funeral occurred. But now that the weekend has passed and the sun is again shining, I am reminded of George and the people that came to the visitation to share wonderful stories about how George Hill affected their life in such a positive way. I know that George would have found a way for Troop 451 to be of service to those who suffered tragedy from last Friday's tornados in southern Indiana. He brought out the best in the young men of Troop 451. If you listened quietly to what he was trying to teach us, you would hear the clear message: Be of service to your fellow man and to your God.

I was a young 20 year old when I began working for George at Rough Notes. We had so many good times and laughs - but George was the most influential boss I have ever had. He took me under his wing and his guidance taught me to be a dedicated and hardworking employee. He changed my life and I think about him often. He was a wonderful man and sure made a difference in this world.

When I think of George Hill, it brings back so many great memories from our childhood.   The things my brothers and I learned and the good times we had being in Scout Troop 451 are priceless.  We will miss the talks we used to have with Mr. Hill over my grandparent's fence when he would stop what he was doing to catch up on how my brothers and I were and what we were doing. Grandpa, because of you I am who I am today. You influenced me from the day that I was born, from the first time that I packed my little red suitcase to spend the night at your house, to those nights we spent sharing a chocolate milk shake waiting for Grandma, through our field trips to the ham radio festivals, to our trips to the Colts games, to our first trip to the Lone Star when I said I was big enough to eat my own steak, from the Friday night visits that I always looked forward to, to our special “Lady and the Tramp” viewings, to my first trip on an airplane, to the numerous New Year's Eve celebrations that you confessed later always ended around 9 pm. When I left home, you always called to ask what was going on, even when you called at 8 am on Saturday mornings, I always told you and you always listened. You encouraged me to embrace life, to enjoy it, to travel, and to see the world as you did during the war. I learned from you to help as many people as I could and to always listen. Dad says that I learned my procrastinating perfectionism ways from you, I couldn't think of a better person to emulate, why do today what you can put off to tomorrow? Thank you for everything, for all of the hugs, for all the love a granddaughter could ask for, for always being there, and for making me be a better person.  You told me that you wanted to be there to see me get married; when that day comes I know that you'll be there in spirit. You'll forever be in my heart. I love you and I miss you.

If I have had any little success in life much of the credit must go to my Scout Master, George Hill.  He was a man who contributed an untold amount of time, and talent, and money to the youth of his community.  Surely God has a special bliss in store for one who gave so much of himself to others. Glendale Christian Church prospered because of your dad.  Many young men prospered because of your dad.  I know how proud you are of him, and how proud he and your mom were of all of you.  I remember a lot of nights when our parents played cards, laughed and joked.  Now your father is sitting at the right hand of God, and they have probably already dealt the cards!

What a great, great man.  I'll never forget the camping trips with troop 451 that he led, talking to him when I went over to see Don, seeing him in the his dark room developing his own photos, admiring his ham radio, electronics and computer skills....  I was so fortunate to grow up 2 doors down from the Hills on Ruth Drive.  God bless Don, Patty and George as they say goodbye to their wonderful Dad.

You once told me that death is just a part of life that we must accept, so I will try.  Even though you are gone from this Earth, you are forever in my heart, just as Mom is.

You were the best Dad anyone could ever hope for.  You touched so many lives and so many people's lives are better because they knew you.  And I am one of them.  Thank you for always being there when I needed you. God Bless you Dad.

He was my dear Grandpa and I will miss him so much.  He was a very sweet man and he loved his family with all his heart.  I have many good memories of him and still have saved many cards and letters from him that I will forever treasure.  I still can't believe he is gone but he will never be forgotten.  Love you always Grandpa.

Dear Patricia, George & Donald Hill and extended family of George Hill, Jr.:

I was a member of Troop 451 back in the early 1960's. I remember you father as that jolly inspiring helpful leader who did so much for us as very young men. My brother and I were both members of Troop 451. I was in the Owl Patrol. I reached Eagle Scout in 1964 with the prodding, encouragement, and help that your father gave to us all. Scouting was a very important part of my life shared with my father, Alan Kamplain, Jr., who was also an Eagle Scout and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Your family, I am sure, is most proud of your father's willingness to share him time and talents with Scouting.
Peace be upon you, may the spirit of the Lord shine abundantly upon your family and be at peace knowing a life was well lead in service to his fellow man.

Thanx to George for all those rides to work when my car was in the shop he dropped me off at  methodist hosp. on his way to work.  He would never take any gas money.  What a quiet kind man. May the Lord bring comfort to the family and loved ones during these hard times.

I remember,as a charter member, of Troop 451.  how you led and nurtured us and the many camping trips.
