Georgia Mae Goodwin was born in 1948 in Camden, Arkansas, to the late Mary Frances Smith Goodwin and Fred Goodwin. Her mother worked as a domestic worker, while her father proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II before pursuing a career as a factory worker. Mae was the seventh and youngest child of the Goodwin family.
Mae graduated from Bloomington High School in 1965. Following graduation, her adventurous spirit led her to explore life beyond Indiana, spending time with family in California and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before eventually returning to Indiana to establish her roots.
On June 10, 1974, Mae welcomed her greatest blessing, her beloved and only daughter, Tarashan Brice. Motherhood became one of the most cherished parts of Mae’s life. The bond she shared with Tarashan was a source of immense love, pride, and joy throughout her years.
Mae built a career at Trilithic, Inc for more than 20 years. Following her father’s footsteps, she demonstrated the same dedication, perseverance, and strong work ethic that characterized her family. She remained committed to her work until retirement in 2013.
Faith and service were important parts of Mae’s life. For more than 30 years, she was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. She found joy in attending worship services, lending her voice to the church choir, and volunteering with Mt. Carmel’s youth literacy program. Through her involvement, Mae shared her time and talents while helping nurture the next generation.
Beyond her work and church commitments, Mae treasured life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed traveling with family, attending family reunions, gardening, music, celebrating and creating memories with those she loved. Some of her happiest moments were spent in the comfort of home, enjoying the companionship of her daughter and their beloved pets. Family remained at the heart of Mae’s life, and she valued the connections that brought generations together.
Georgia Mae Goodwin departed this life on October 4, 2026. Mae was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mary Frances and Fred Goodwin; her sisters, Freedia Eloise Washington and Franchell Clary; and her brothers, Herbert Goodwin, Josh Goodwin, and Fred Goodwin Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her adored daughter, Tarashan Brice; her elder sisters, Ora Lee Goodwin and Betty Goodwin; her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; her Mt. Carmel Church family; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
Georgia Mae Goodwin’s life was a testament to the enduring importance of family, faith, hard work, and service to others. Her legacy lives in the memories shared, the lives she touched, and, most especially, the love she gave so freely to those closest to her.
