97, of Indianapolis, departed this life September 12, 2010. Prior to raising her family she taught at the Indiana School for the Blind. Gertrude volunteered at Little Sisters of the Poor, PTA at St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Agnes Academy and was a graduate of St. Mary of the Woods College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Shiel; son, Rhody, and sisters, Mary and Louise. Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Trudy Shiel, Judy Harris, Sally DeMars, Susan Newman and Marilyn Smith; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18th in St. Luke Catholic Church. Visitation will begin in the church at 10:00 AM and conclude at time of Mass.
