

Glenn D. Payne passed from this life to his eternal heavenly home on January 1, 2025. He was born in Rock Castle County, Kentucky on April 20, 1942 to Russel and Jo Edna (Meece) Payne. He moved with his family to the Indianapolis area in the mid-1950s. He attended Emerich Manual High School and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. He served a meat cutter apprenticeship and worked for Kroger, Marsh Supermarkets, and owned Payne’s Meat Market. He also served an electrical transmission lineman apprenticeship with Indianapolis Power and Light, and most of his working years were spent in that profession. He retired from Ameren Illinois Power in Bloomington, Illinois in 2006.
Glenn married Marcia Wright in December of 1963. They have two sons, Andrew Bryan (Karen Lewis) Payne and Timothy Ryan (Sarah Woods) Payne. Five grandsons also survive: Alexander (Joanie), Jacob (Gracie), Tristan, Justus and Titus Payne and one great-granddaughter, Lennon Ray Payne. Other survivors include a sister, Lynda Baldwin of Clovis, California and her children Rachel Miller (her sons Donnie and DeMarcus Miller) and DeMarcus McCloud; brothers-in-law David (Stephanie) Wright and Lloyd Wright (Maureen McCrae); and numerous nieces and nephews who are children of his brothers- and sisters-in-law – Shari (Greg) Cruse, Susan Hunt, Kim Conner, Forrest Glenn (Maria) Wright, Steve Hauser, Sally (Tim) Fagg, Ryan (Corri) Wright, Megan Pederson, Jordan Wright, Zachary (Alyssa) Wright, Jaimeson (Creedon) McCarthy, Emily (Joel Meinhardt) Wright, and Lindsey (Trent Robinson) Wright, Tim and Aaron Deremiah and EJ Wright; and sisters-in-law, Marge and Patrice Wright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sisters, father and mother-in-law Max F. and Lanore Wright; sister-in-law Diane Hauser; brothers-in-law John Max Wright and Thomas Hauser; and friends Gene Megli and Dr. Bob Duncan.
Glenn attended Post Road Christian Church and was a member of College Park Christian Church in Normal, Illinois where he served as an elder.
The Payne family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Cypress Run at Morristown Manor for their loving care and support given to Glenn during his stay there. The friendships developed during his stay there will live on in their hearts forever.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m, January 11, 2025 at Little and Sons Funeral Home- 4901 E Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis IN 46237 with a service to immediately follow at 11:30am.
Glenn will be laid to rest privately at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine, Indiana.
