Glenna Jane Green, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the age of 71 on February 14, 2025. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents Gene and Ruth Gill and was the fifth of their nine children. To know her, was to love her, as Glenna was known for her kind, compassionate, giving, and selfless disposition which left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Glenna was a graduate of North Central High School and was a very hard and devoted worker. She spent several years as a server at the Radisson, where she received the honor of Employee of the Year in 1994. Most of her career, however, was devoted to Cable Concepts, where her hard work and trustworthiness led her to the position of office manager. She spent almost 20 years with the company, until her retirement in 2012.
Glenna was the loving and caring matriarch of her family and treasured time spent with them the most. Her most cherished role, perhaps, was being known as “Grandma” or “Mimi”. She was also strong in her Christian faith and loved gardening, bird watching and caring for the wildlife in her own backyard.
Glenna is survived by her loving and devoted husband, the love of her life for 46 years, John. John’s first memories of Glenna are of her wearing her 1970s Steak and Ale waitress uniform – short skirt and black tights! Once he laid eyes on her, the rest was history, as they shared a love story that most can only dream of. They were always the couple that others envied and their love and complete and eternal devotion to one another often served as a pillar of strength for their family and exemplified true love to those surrounding them.
She is also survived by her four children who loved her dearly, Jamie (Tina), Angela (Wayne), Samantha (Brendan), and Megan (Andy); her thirteen grandchildren who adored her, Victoria (Xavier), Kali, Austin, Kaleb (Kassey), Brayden (Skyla), Faith (Dustin), Taylor (Trea), Dalton (Liz), Cole, Aiden, Mary Grace, Reagan, and Riley; and her four great-grandchildren Vivian, Noah, Navy, and, Cian.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Ruth Gill; and her sister Kathleen McAfee.
Glenna’s warm smile and kindness will forever be remembered and her loving nature will live on in the hearts of all those knew her.
A Celebration of Life to honor Glenna will be held at the White River Yacht Club, 1400 E 74th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240, on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 2pm-6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation (https://www.helpfightra.org/donations/), or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (https://www.komen.org/how-to-help/donate/).
