

Han Won Paik passed away Friday, January 10, 2014, with family present in the comfort of St. Vincent's Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born in Sinuiju, (North) Korea on December 10, 1928, the fourth of nine children. He is survived by Chinok Chang, his wife of 56 years; his daughter, Carol Yumie; his two sons, Eugene Chang (Tamara) and George Yusun (Mary Katherine); and his six grandchildren Benjamin, Monica, Andrew, Anneliese, Daniel, and Theodore.
After a perilous escape from the North, Han Won served as an interpreter for the US Army during the Korean War. With Chinok, he immigrated to the US in 1958 to study at Northwestern Univ., then earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Indiana Univ., and taught at and retired emeritus of IUPUI in 1993. He was a founding member of Indianapolis’ first Korean language congregation and later the Korean Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis. Besides the advancement of scientific knowledge, his life-long passion was service to others in the classroom and community, and through the church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 11:00 AM at the Korean Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Korean Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis, 1020 101st St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46280.
