Harold Dwight Dufloth (Duffy) departed for home Thursday, January 23, to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 99. He was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and blessing to all who knew him.
Duffy was known as a humorous, wise, reliable, affirming, positive Christian man, full of joy all his days.
Born at home, June 11, 1914, in Onaka, South Dakota, to immigrant Henry R. Dufloth and Claudena (Hansen) Dufloth, Duffy was graduated from high school in Aberdeen, South Dakota (65 miles away from home where there was no high school), when he was 16 and attended Normal College there for three years. Even though he worked his way through college, Duffy made time to write for the yearbook staff, play basketball, serve as class treasurer, and sing in the college choir and a local, Wesleyan Methodist, traveling quartet.
After finishing college in Aberdeen, Duffy worked for three years as an accountant for a line of grain elevators, saving his salary for additional graduate work. During this time, Duffy pitched for the Aberdeen baseball team and won the 1937 state tournament.
Duffy attended Greenville College in Illinois, where he served as chaplain of the college choir and the vice-president of his class. He met the love of his life, Florence Logan and was graduated with honors in business in 1938. Duffy and Florence married after her college graduation in 1939 at the Free Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, IL.
Being multi-talented, Duffy worked as a salesman and started a flourishing auto parts store in South Dakota. He wrote and functioned as editor of the town newspaper and succeeded in managing a large district gas company in Lawrenceville, Illinois, where he was active in the Rotary Club and other community improvement activities. In Indianapolis, Indiana, he owned and operated a transmission shop and served as treasurer for Wabash Conference in the Free Methodist church. He volunteered his time to his church serving in various capacities. Even though he was successful in so many areas, he was first a loving and attentive husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His pride was foremost in his family and their accomplishments.
After retiring, Duffy and Florence retired to Lakeland. Florida, where they lived for 15 years on a small, friendly campground with former college classmates and friends. It was college life again, but without classes. They loved living there.
Duffy and Florence moved to Robin Run in Indianapolis in 1998 where he continued to make new friends laugh and enjoy life. His later years were filled with reclining in his chair while watching sports on his large tv and praying for his entire family and friends.
Duffy was proceeded in death by his son, Jerry Curtis Dufloth (1997) and his wife of 68 years, Florence Aliean (Logan) Dufloth (2007).
He is survived by two children: Donna Langford of Chelsea, MI, and Joanne & (Charles) Ellis of Indianapolis; five grandchildren: Douglas &(Sharon) Langford of Brighton, NY, Brian &(Amy) Ellis of Danville, IN, Brent &(Christy) Ellis of Spring Arbor, MI, Eric & (Stephanie) Ellis of Frisco, TX, and Nicole & (Matthew) Bramlet of Peoria, IL; and 14 great grandchildren: Nicole and Dylan Langford; Claudia and Caroline Ellis; Charlie, Lainey, and Joey Ellis; Ethan, Gavin, and Chloe Ellis; Elias, Micah, Lydia, and Jude Bramlet. All greatly admire and respect their heritage from Harold Dufloth.
