Hattie Mae was born in Huntsville, Alabama, to George and Jessie Logan on March 14, 1945. She later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. She married the love of her life, James E. Cushenberry, on August 12, 1962, and together they were blessed with two daughters, Helen and Jerri.
Hattie confessed her faith at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated and faithful member for over 30 years. She dedicated many years of her life working as an Environmental Services Aide at Methodist Hospital, where she served with care and compassion before retiring after many years of service.
Hattie Mae lived a wonderful and fulfilling life surrounded by those she loved. She never met a stranger and had a warm, welcoming spirit wherever she went. She treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren and found joy in helping others in any way she could. In her spare time, Hattie enjoyed thrift shopping, traveling, visiting loved ones, and spending time outdoors—especially fishing and gardening on warm, sunny days.
Hattie Mae was a mother and grandmother like no other, always thinking of her children and going above and beyond to make sure they were cared for and loved. It was a true blessing, and something we will always be grateful for, to experience her unconditional love. Her presence was a gift that will live on in our hearts forever.
Hattie Mae transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father on March 24, 2026, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, James E. Cushenberry, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion; her parents, George and Jessie Logan; siblings, Otis Matthews and George Logan; and her sisters, Dorothy Wallace and Jessie Lee, along with many other beloved family members.
Hattie Mae leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Helen Cushenberry “Osvaldo” and Jerri Cushenberry “James”; her granddaughter, Jerika Broyles “Jerry”; and three great-grandchildren, Demariyah Broyles, Jerry, and Jeriya Banks. She is also survived by her sisters Buelah Woods and Lucille Betancourt along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who loved her dearly.
