Helen Elnora (Long) Guynn went home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2014. She was born April 1, 1928 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Albert Long and Alice (Clark) Long. The Long family moved to Kokomo from Owensboro, Kentucky when Helen was ayoung child. She attended Douglas School and graduated from Kokomo High School.
She retired from Stellite Corporation She has been a member of Wayman Chapel AME Church since childhood. She was very active in her church serving as a member of the Anna C. Clayborn Missionary Society. She also participated in various volunteer activities of the church. She loved and served
the Lord all of her life. Helen was very active in her community. She served in various offices from president to secretary/treasurer for the Worley David Gaskin American Legion Auxiliary Unit 177. She helped to raise money to send over sixty high school girls to the American Legion Nationally sponsored Girls State to learn about government. Helen also served as the Chairperson for the Poppy Committee overseeing poppy sales for Unit 177. She also helped found the Minority Friends Group which collected personal items and clothes for minority women in Kokomo's domestic violence shelter. She also served as neighborhood team leader for the National Heart Association. .
Helen enjoyed camping, fishing, friends, and travel. She and her family spent many memorable times on camping trips.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of sixty-five years, Winston Guynn, the couple was married on March 31, 1949 in Kokomo, Marshall Couch, a son, from a previous marriage; (Allison); Marquis Guynn, son, (Denorse); four granddaughters, six grandsons, several great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son, Michael Couch; a sister, Nannie Dunigan and a brother, Robert Long. She also leaves several nieces and great nieces and nephews. She leaves three special friends, Darlene Liggon, Doris Pullens, and Joanne Ellison.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 26,2014, 12 Noon at Wayman Chapel AME Church, Kokomo, Rev. Michael Carson, will be the eulogist and Pastor Louis Parham will be the officiant. Friends may call on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 10 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Bluitt Funeral Home.
