Herbert William Jones
June 19, 1958 – March 11, 2020
Mr. Herbert “Herb or Herbie” William Jones, son of Carl and Genevieve Jones was born June 19, 1958 in Indianapolis, IN. He attended IPS School 36 and graduated from Arsenal Technicalz High School. He received his Associates in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2004. Herb was baptized at Jones Tabernacle AME Zion Church in 1990. There he served as the Preacher's Steward, an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, and Trustee Board Member. Later, he and his family joined Eastern Star Church (ESC). At ESC, he served faithfully in the Children's Church and Barnabas Ministry at the Fishers Campus.
He was united in holy matrimony to Karen Ann Simmons in September of 1990.
Herb had a successful career that included working for Jani-King Cleaning and Janitorial Service and other companies in Indianapolis. In the early 2000s, he pursued his dream of starting his own janitorial company, Well Done Services. Later, Herb expanded his enterprise by acquiring FiberExperts. As the Owner and Director of Operations, he operated the company on Christian principles and believed that serving others is the cornerstone to building a successful business and living a successful life.
Herb lived these values by serving his community as a basketball and football coach for Lawrence Township Football League (LTFL), Lawrence Township Basketball League (LTBBL), and Eastern Star Church. His company, Well Done Services, was an annual sponsor of the t-ball program at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church.
Herb was a loving father and husband that cared deeply for his family, friends, and fellow neighbor. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He was always willing to provide a listening ear and blessed with the gift of sound advice. Herb was a jazz enthusiast, music lover, dedicated Colts and Pacers fan, avid foodie, and found joy in practical jokes.
Herb peacefully transitioned surrounded by family and friends on March 11, 2020 at the age of 61. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Carl Jones, Jr. His beautiful life will forever be cherished by his wife Karen; children Erika, Julian, Jason, and Jonathan; granddaughter Ava Rose; his sisters, Thresa Steward (William), Lora Myers, and Rita Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

My fondest memory of Herb Jones.
Karen, Herb’s wife, was a dear friend of mine. We met in graduate school at Indiana University in Bloomington. I live
in Chicago, but would often come to Indy to visit Karen. On one of my visits, Karen told me about a guy she met on a blind date and how much she liked him. I told her I wanted to meet him to see if he was the right guy for her since I could tell she was falling for him. When I met Herb, I gave him the third degree and asked a lot of questions trying to see how he really felt about Karen. I was pleasantly surprised by his calm demeanor and warm personality. Herb passed the test. He won me over that day and I had the pleasure of being a bridesmaid in their wedding. Herb exemplified a true Christian man. He was a wonderful husband and father. I know because I saw how happy he made Karen and how happy she made him. They were such a loving couple with three handsome sons. I will never forget his beautiful smile. My sincerest condolences to the Jones and Simmons families. I love all of you. May God surround you with his love and give your peace during this difficult time.

I worked with Herb at Jefferson National Life. He was a great employee. As supervisor of mail and supply he had many ideas on how to improve service in both areas. He was also a good audience for my jokes and other silliness. I would see him at the Pacer games once in awhile. He also worked at Market Square Arena for awhile. I will miss him greatly.

Words can’t express what a truly remarkable man Herb was. I met him thru Epworth and we developed a friendship. We had many deep biblical conversations and many laughs. I know that he is in heaven and at peace. He was a gift to this world. Herb Jones - you will be missed.
