Obituary of Herman Matthew Wilson
Herman Matthew Wilson, 78 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Monday January 10, 2022 at Community East Hospital after a short illness. Herman was born on January 27, 1943, in Brooklyn, West Virginia to his loving parents, James Arthur Wilson, Sr. and Viola Roberta Davis Wilson Herman was educated in Fayette County School System in WV, graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1962. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and United States Navy. After serving in those two branches of the military he received an honorable discharge, in July of 1969. He then worked for the United States Postal Service where he retired after 28 years of service. Herman then worked for the Indianapolis Star Newspaper where he finally retired. Herman was a faithful man and servant of the Lord. Baptized at an early age, he remained a devout person of faith throughout his life. He was a member of Grace Apostolic Church for nearly 40 years. Herman had a passion for teaching the word of God and led a weekly Bible Study with family. He was a wonderful, fun-loving, caring dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who had a deep respect for family bonds. He had special love for family gatherings and gave so much to all. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Viola Wilson, his wife Evelyn (Kerr), his sisters, Louise Jasper and Corintha Hawkins, brothers, Thomas, Alphonso and Cornell Wilson. He is survived by his son, Derek and family: wife Rosa, grandchildren; Jocelynn, Bianca and his great grandson, Adrian Cheesebourough, brothers: James (Monica) Wilson, Larry Wilson, Wayman (Patricia) Wilson and sister Trula Wilson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and acquaintances. Special thanks is extended to the staff of Community East Hospital ICU. Grace Apostolic Church will be live streaming services.
