Homer was born in Tunckhannock, PA, on August 25, 1921, and was the second oldest of six boys. While growing up in Pennsylvania working on his parents’ farm, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Homer earned an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute while under the Navy’s V12 Program during WWII. After finishing his tour of duty with the Navy, he joined the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1981. While stationed in Chicago, he met his love of 65 years, Anna Andress. While living in Chicago, he started his career with Western Electric and, in 1949, was transferred to the Indianapolis plant. In 1985, he retired from Western Electric after 38+ years. He attended Butler University, receiving his MBA in 1962.
Homer was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church where he was very active as Finance Chairman; troop leader for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts along with his wife, Anna. He was also a member and officer in several engineering societies; Kiwanis International, American Legion Post 34 and other community organizations, receiving a Community Service Award from the City Mayor in 1986.
Homer had three brothers who preceded him in death: Donald (Elinor), Kenneth (Bertha) and Herbert (Carol). He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Lane, along with brothers Stanley (Doris) PA, Howard (Hope) CA, his daughters, Vicki (Peter) Rees and Carol (Charles) Hall plus grandchildren Lisa (Brian) Goodman, Jenny (Jay) Yee and Chris Hall as well as six great-grandchildren: Anna and Rachel Goodman, Caleb and Brayden Yee, Addison Raab and Preston Hall.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20 at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 East 71st St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 21 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Memorial Fund, Children’s TherAplay Foundation or Catholic Relief Services. Memorial tributes may be offered at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com.
