Horace Bryan Hudson entered into the presence of the Lord on October 17, 2026. He left this life the same way he lived, in strength and peace.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Minister of the Gospel, gifted singer, and an award-winning automotive technician for the bulk of his career. He worked for a short time as a highly effective consultant to dealerships representing the Ford Motor Company across Indiana, but did not prefer to be away from home, deciding to return to his role as a lead automotive technician.
Horace Hudson was a “Living Landmark” who leaves a legacy of excellence, faith, service, and love. Born on September 7, 1936, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, to Rev. Ray Elijah & Amanda Rachel Hudson, Horace lived through nine decades of remarkable change. His life reflected the value of working diligently, developing one’s gifts, and using those gifts to serve others.
He graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, earned an Associate Degree in automotive technology, was ordained to the Gospel ministry, and was one of the founders of New Covenant Church.
Horace shared the grace of life with his beloved wife, Gaynell, who preceded him in death in 2003. Together, they raised a son, Bryan, who has followed their legacy of excellence, ministry, creative expression, and love for people.
As a singer and musician, Horace found expression and joy in music, having served as a worship leader and recorded many songs. His faith found expression through outreach ministry. For more than 35 years, he led monthly chapel services at Wheeler Mission Ministries. He was also involved in prison ministry and community outreach as the co-founder with Gaynell of the NCC Community Christmas Outreach, which will hold its 36th annual program in 2026, sharing gifts, food, and God's love through Christ. He was an insightful Bible teacher for New Covenant Church Sunday School and other programs.
Horace enjoyed playing tennis, remaining active in the sport well into his early 80s. He was a man who served others quietly, often behind the scenes, but always with compassion and excellence. He was responsible for maintenance of the building and grounds of New Covenant Church.
His final years brought physical challenges, but through it all, he modeled faithfulness and determination, living in his own home with caregiver support for as long as possible.
Family and Loved Ones
He is survived by his loving family: son, Dr. Bryan Hudson; daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann (Blunt) Hudson; grandchildren, Michael (Shayla), Michelle, Jonathan (Hannah), and Christine; great-grandchildren, Nora, Maxwell, and Ivy; brother, David Hudson; nephew, D’Wayne; and nieces, Donna, Dana, Torri, and Theresa.
He also leaves behind his beloved New Covenant Church family, who regarded him as a spiritual father and mentor.
