Jacqueline “Jackie” Marie Carey (70) of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, with her family by her side. Jackie was born on November 14, 1952, as the oldest child to Margaret Ann and John K. Carey, Jr in Indianapolis, IN. Jackie was a 1971 graduate of North Central High School. She attended Ball State for a year before returning home to help care for her mother. Jackie’s lifelong career in retail began with the William H. Block, Co. at the Glendale Mall in Indianapolis during high school. Jackie stayed with the company through Lazarus and Macy’s, retiring after 44 years in 2016. Throughout her tenure, she managed several departments, her favorite of which was textiles. Jackie was a Life Member of Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 7119, serving as President for most of the past 25 years. She was also District 11 President in 2000-2001. She also held offices and various chairmanships in the State. Jackie loved to serve Veteran’s in many capacities. She hosted annual POW/MIA memorials at Post 7119, marched in the Lawrence 4th of July Parade, visited veterans at the Roudebush VA Hospital and even became a volunteer at the VA Domiciliary upon her retirement. Jackie’s passion was people. She had the biggest heart and always made time for others. She loved big. She always took care of others, whether it was her people at work, veterans, or her family. For Jackie, family was the most important and she loved the kids. Kids flocked to Jackie as she always had something for them, whether it was a tangible item, high five or fist bump. She will forever be remembered for her kind heart. Jackie is survived by her sisters, Mary Lou Carey and Patty (Larry) Northcutt; her nieces Carey (Sarah) Northcutt, Kelly (Kyle) Stubbeman; her nephew, Larry (Jenny) Northcutt, Jr.; her great-nieces Colleen Northcutt and Sophia Stubbeman; her great-nephew, Walker Northcutt and a host of other family and friends.
