

James L. Capps Sr. “Poppie” 64 of Indianapolis, passed away August 31, 2023. He was born in Indianapolis, IN to Charles “Shelby” and Mary (Burrello) Capps. Jimmy worked as a flooring installer most of his life. He enjoyed camping, boating, traveling and spending time with his grandkids. Jimmy was diagnosed with C.O.P.D. in 2012. He recently went through evaluations for a double lung transplant. After the unexpected passing of his beloved lady, he wanted more than anything to live a fulfilled life for them both. He tried so hard to stay positive. He was diagnosed with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinomia during his evaluations. He was not one to give up. He stayed positive until the end. But he was tired and ready to go be with his girl. He was the proudest Poppie, and made sure everyone knew that Poppie is the Man! James is survived by his loving family, sons: Michael Rigdon (Mindy), James L. Capps Jr. (Natalie), Daniel McQueen (Heather); Daughters: Amanda Capps, Mendy McQueen, Stephanie Webb (Terry); Previous spouse: Beverly Rigdon; Grandchildren, Alexis Gillett (Adam), Nevada Stafford, Anthony Rigdon, Khloe Rigdon, Cameron Hubbard, Justine Capps (Matt), James L. Capps 3rd, Dylan, Kayla, Kylie McQueen, Emalie Earlywine, Taelor Henderson, Dyson, Ashlyn Adkins; Great grandchildren: Riley, Henry, Dawson, and Woodrow; and siblings: David (Lisa) Capps and Gina Capps McGowan. He is preceded in death by, Love of his life Sharon McQueen; his parents: C. Shelby Capps and Mary Capps; brother: Shelby Capps; and sister: Shelly Capps.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Feeney Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
