

James (Jim) was born in Blytheville, Arkansas to Thomas Smith Davis and Jane Ann Batz-Hughes on August 8, 1959. He went to Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating in 1976. He married Judy Davis on September 17, 2022, at Folly Beach, South Carolina. He graduated from Park University, in Parkville, Missouri. Jim worked as a Systems Administrator for Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) retiring in 2025. He was a veteran, proudly served in the Army, and was awarded the Retirement Lapel Button, Defense Meritorious Service Metal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award) Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon With Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) Driver and Mechanic Badge With Driver-W Bar, US Army Basic Recruiter Badge With 3 Gold Achievement Stars.
Jim was musically talented and could soothe your soul with his guitar. Jim was meticulous and loved old things. In his youth Jim excelled in sports. He enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts and the Indianapolis Indians. He participated in the family fantasy football league and NCAA basketball pool. He attended several NASCAR races and the Indianapolis 500 qualifications as often as possible. He also ran the Indianapolis 500 Mini Marathon 5K. Jim had a love for food, especially chocolate anything, and could be found at the grill or in the kitchen cooking. He was the host of many feasts. He appreciated history, traveling and visiting historical sites with several trips planned.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Jane Ann Batz-Hughes, niece Alicia Davis, nephew Jacob Jurgens, brother in laws Larry Grubb, Mark Grubb and step niece Jamie Ward.
Jim is survived by his wife Judy, sons James T. Davis (partner Cassie), Miles Davis, daughters Patricia Callis (Jake), Tiffany Dice (Mark), brothers Thomas D. Davis (Laura) Michael Batz, sisters Tempest Pete (Pat), Tammy Davis, Anita Jurgens (Sonny), father Thomas S. Davis, grandchildren Harrison Dice, Cillian Dice, Ruari Dice, Logan Callis, Ethan Callis, stepsons Ryan Esselborn (partner Kristina) Joseph Esselborn (Natasha), and step grandson Liam Esselborn.
Visitation will be 3:00p.m. -7:00p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2026, with Rosary at 7:00p.m at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W, 38th St. Indianapolis, IN 46208.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Joseph Moriarity officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St. Indianapolis, IN 46208.
