On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the world lost, a phenomenal soul, who lived a life of honesty, integrity, dependability, and unconditional love. We lost a radiant smile, great conversations, a soulful laughter, a friend, and a mentor.
James “Tony” Harrison, the son of Harold Harrison and Inez Ridley, was born on November 1, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
James was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System. He attended IPS 86 and graduated from Shortridge High School in January 1961. He was a Veteran of Bravo Company, 1st Recon Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps, serving four years in Southeast Asia and Stateside, before being honorably discharged in January 1966 as a Sergeant.
James was employed with the Chrysler Corporation UAW 550 from February 1966 until he retired in October 2001 from the Indianapolis Foundry.
James was united in holy matrimony to Joyce A. Patterson on February 10, 1979. They enjoyed 12 years of courtship and 42 years of marriage, for a total of 54 years together.
James was born again in 1991 under the guidance of Pastor Donald Thomas at New Zion Tabernacle. He served as a Deacon until 2001. In October 2001, he joined New Life Worship Center, under the leadership of Pastor John Ramsey, Sr. He served as an Evangelism Team Member, Nursing Home Leader, New Members Teacher, and Inter-cessory Prayer Member. His spiritual growth continued, as he graduated in 2012 from New Wineskin Ministries. After his Ordination, his plan was to Teach, Preach, Reach, and be obedient to God. James was able to teach, preach, reach, and be obedient to God, under the Leadership of Pastor Kim and Steve Outlaw at Living Water Fellowship Church.
James was a car enthusiast, he loved cars and everything about them; he enjoyed buying them, collecting them, working on them, modifying them and everything else that comes to mind. He especially loved the British Sports Cars, in particular a 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MK3, that followed him home from Bridgeport, California. He later added several Triumph TR3s, TR6s and a Fiat X1/9 to his collection. He had a green thumb for house plants, an unconditional love for a miniature schnauzer, named Sherlock, enjoyed watching western movies, sporting events, and MSNBC. He was also an avid bowler and a “makeshift” inventor (scratch and smooth). James was a truly incredible son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who lived by the scripture;
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God”
1 Corinthians 10:31.
James “Tony” Harrison went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 26 days. His loving and devoted wife, Joyce A. Harrison; mother, Inez Ridley; stepfather, Harold Jameson Sr.; and father, Harold Harrison, preceded him in death.
James leaves behind two loving sons, Anthony J. Harrison, and Clinton Jackson, Sr. (Venae Fowler-Jackson); two sisters, Sheila Leavell and Deborah A. Johnson; a brother, Harold Jameson Jr.; grandchildren, Jordan A. Harrison, Cameron M. Harrison, Clinton Jackson Jr., Briahn Jones-Jackson, Jalen Jones, Azára L. Jackson, and Kevin L. Jackson; great-grandsons, Nour Al Assaadi and Malcolm Al Assaadi; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; The Living Water Fellowship Church and The New Life Worship Center families; many friends and neighbors.
