

James R. Hebden, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 5, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN. Jim was born August 28, 1928, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, an only son to James and Mary (McKen) Hebden. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his cherished wife Ruth Ann Norris and his loving daughter Susan Elizabeth File.
On May 28, 1955, Jim married Ruth Ann Norris of Anderson with whom he had 3 children. Jim was devoted to his family. He is survived by his children Mary Ann Hill (Brian) of Mountainside, NJ, James R. Hebden, Jr. (Kathleen) of Plymouth, MI, and his son-in-law, Kenneth A. File of Syracuse, IN. Jim was blessed with seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter: Morgan Hill, Margaret Hill (fiancé Bashamba Williams), Charlotte File Peigen (Geoffrey), Claire File (fiancé Nico Beckermann), Hannah File Kowal (Jacob), James F. Hebden (Andrea), Andrew G. Hebden (Kate), and Margaux D. Hebden.
As a young child, Jim traveled extensively with his parents. He is a 1946 graduate of Westfield, NJ High School and graduated cum laude from Brown University in 1950. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity. Jim served honorably in the Korean Conflict and returned home to an illustrious 40-year career with the General Motors Corporation in Anderson, Detroit, Dayton, Luton, England and Kokomo. Jim was an avid Colts and Pacers fan. He loved golf, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing corn toss and calling bingo. Jim especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Jim's smile, laughter, and caring nature had the ability to brighten up anyone's day. He will truly be missed.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation will be at Crown Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 2:00 - 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 11:00 am at Christ Church Cathedral Indianapolis, IN.
