James Herman Hubbard (known to friends and family as Jim, Jimbo, and Hub), 60, passed away February 9, 2023 at home. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Jim attended Speedway High School and Indiana University in Bloomington.
Jim spent two years working in Tampa/St. Petersburg in the early 80s and then returned to Indianapolis, residing and working in Broad Ripple. He knew and was known by the restaurant/bar regulars and staff in Broad Ripple.
Although he was a native Hoosier, Jim was a lifelong and loyal Minnesota Vikings fan. He liked to say that this was because, as a young boy, he thought the team was Minne-SODA Vikings and he liked soda, so that was the team for him. In addition to the Vikings, Jim was a lover of all kinds of music, especially Rock and Motown. If you played against him in a trivia game, you were bound to lose. He also loved a good game of cards, especially poker, 31 and Euchre.
Jim was not one to value material possessions. Jim valued his friends, many of whom he had known for decades and meant the world to him. There was never a nicer person who just wanted to work, have a beer and good conversation at the bar. He will be remembered most for his kind soul, wisdom, unwavering loyalty, and quick wit.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Hubbard and his father, Herman Broadway Hubbard. Jim is survived by his siblings Dawn Streich (Jon), Debbie Dolan (Kevin), Jo Ann Dent (Tom) and Jami Hammond, numerous nieces and nephews, and his extended family of friends.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the caring staff of St. Vincent Hospital and Compassus Hospice.
Jim’s friends are invited to raise a glass in his memory at a celebration of his life.
