

85, passed away peacefully June 30, 2011. Jan was born in Buffalo, New York, on April 29, 1926 to Norman and Theodora (Wood) Matches. Immediately upon graduating from Lafayette High School, she started working at The Niagara National Bank in Buffalo. In 1952, she wed Robert (Bob) Dietrick, also from Buffalo, and shortly thereafter the couple moved to Indianapolis where they raised six children on the city’s north side. Jan and her husband were charter members of St. Pius X Parish. She was a voracious reader, an avid bridge player, served as a Republican poll worker for decades and reinforced her lifetime of learning by taking courses at I.U.P.U.I.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jack and Richard Matches, her sister, Noreen Ucci, and is survived by her sister, Shirley Kennedy, all of Buffalo. She also is survived by her husband and six children: Debra (Jim) Marten, Robert (Karen) Dietrick, Andrew (Lesa) Dietrick, Christopher (Julie) Dietrick, Janet Mary (Jamie) Huxhold and Patrick (Meg) Dietrick, all of Indianapolis. Jan also leaves a legacy of fifteen grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much and made her very proud: Jim, Bo, Blair, Drew, Wyatt, Chris, Kyle, Eddie, Annie, Evan, Hannah, Maggie, John, Katie and William.
