Janet Ittenbach, 80, of Indianapolis, Indiana departed this life on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Janet was born in Indianapolis on September 22, 1944 to Robert & Rosemary (Livingston) Armstrong. She was a graduate of St. Agnes Academy and then attended Butler University.
We are heartbroken to share the passing of beloved Janet, who left us peacefully, surrounded by love. She lived a vibrant life filled with laughter, connection and curiosity.
A passionate follower of politics and current events, she was never far from the news- and never shy about sharing her opinions. Whether discussing world affairs or the latest headlines, she brought insight, wit and a spark to every conversation.
Music added joy to her days and she rarely missed an opportunity to see a live performance. She thrived in the company of others- attending parties with family and friends filled her cup. She was a true social butterfly.
An active spirit, she found joy and fulfillment on the tennis and pickleball courts and on the golf course, where her competitive nature and love of the game always shone through. She was a fierce competitor- not just in sports, but in words. She loved matching wits with friends through Words with Friends and scrabble, always up for the next challenge and a clever play. She found peace by the ocean where she loved to soak up the sun and walk on the beach. In recent years, Sundays were reserved for NFL football where she cheered for the Colts and the teams she chose in her Marquette Manor football pool.
Above all, she loved people, she laughed often and brought positive energy to those around her. Her life was a celebration of connection, joy, and spirit- and we will carry her in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Ittenbach; brother, Robert Armstrong and wife Barbara.
Janet is survived by her loving daughter, Lynne (Jason) Hammond; dear siblings, David (Mary) Armstrong, Alice (Tom) Hedden and Tom (Martha) Armstrong as well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation for Janet will begin at 10:00am on Friday, June 20th at St. Pius X Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment follows at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis.
