Janice Darlene Mitchell Croomes

On June 30, 1938 in Wheatland, Indiana, Rex and Nettie Mitchell were blessed with our beautiful mother, whom they named Janice Darlene Mitchell. She was the oldest daughter of four children.

JANICE graduated High School from a little one room school house in Wheatland, Indiana in 1956. She went on to get her Bachelor's degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She worked for University Heights Hospital for several years until it closed and then moved on to retire from Community Hospital South where she was awarded nurse of the year and made life-long friends among her co-workers who ultimately became like family and ended up caring for her in her later years. She was so passionate about being a nurse and caring for others that even after her retirement she continued to renew her Nursing license each year up until her passing.

Everyone who ever met Janice always left with the comment "Your mom is such a sweetheart." She always left such an impression of her giving spirit and humorous demeanor.

JANICE DARLENE MITCHELL departed this life on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald R. Mitchell, Gary D. Mitchell, grandfather , Elza Johnson; parents, Rex and Nettie Mitchell and a host of other family. She will be deeply missed by all.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted son and daughter, Craig E. Croomes and Caren E. Johnson, granddaughters, Kyra J. Johnson, Deja B. Johnson, Zoe R. Johnson; grandson Justin A. Croomes; sister Barbara J. Whitlock, sister in law Marva J. Mitchell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
