Janice M. Flemming affectionately known as “Granny” was born to Charles Lyles and Anna Marie Bundles on October 18, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a child, Janice resided on the south side of Indianapolis. Janice received her elementary education in the Indianapolis Public School system. She also attended Harry E. Wood High School and in 2004 graduated, with distinction, from Martin University. At Martin University, where she work and went to school; Janice was the recipient of the prestigious Trailblazer Award for her outstanding leadership as the Director of the Work Study Program.
Janice was a devout Christian who served at Calvary Temple Church as a Child & Family Therapist and as a Drug Counselor, at the Metro Church in the Women’s Prison Ministry, and out of her home as a Hope Group Leader for family members & friends. In serving the Lord, Janice has done exactly as the Word of God admonishes, as she has truly left a Spiritual inheritance not only to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren—but to her extended family members as well.
Janice departed this life on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the age of seventy-three years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lyles and Anna M. Bundles, her granddaughter A’aniah Collins, two brothers, David (Pete) Royston, George (Frankie) Royston, and one sister (Darlena B. Sturdivant-Murphy) and a cousin who was like a sister Marlene A. Blackmore-Haley.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Tonya L. Shelton (Alvin), Rhonda Collins and Thresa R. Montgomery (Robert), brothers Solomon Varnado (Ronzella), and Elliott L. Varnado (Westy), sisters Louise Poindexter and Grozie Royston, twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchild, and a host of other family and friends.
