Jeffrey Charles Byrnes, 77, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023 after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s disease. Born to John and Margaret Byrnes in 1946, Jeff was originally from Racine, Wisconsin. He spent the majority of his life, though, in the suburbs of Indianapolis.
Jeff was a member of the VFW after his service in the Army during the Vietnam War for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked in the trucking industry for over 30 years, and during that time, he met his wife, Martha. Married in 1977, they built a 46-year marriage.
Jeff is best remembered for his command of the English language, his quick wit, and dry sense of humor. He was known to strike up a conversation with anyone who was willing. He worked to overcome personal challenges and was a friend and a mentor to others.
His was a life well-lived and comfort is found in knowing he is at peace. He is preceded in death by his parents and older brother. He is survived by his wife Martha, daughters Tina, Erin, and Kerry and sons-in-law Eddie, David, and Jason. His greatest happiness was being Papaw to his grandchildren, Heather, Aaron, Camyrn, Bradyn, Cooper, and Stella, and great-granddaughter, Isabella.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 14 at 1pm at Crown Hill Funeral home in the Remembrance Hall.
