68, of Indianapolis passed away in his home December 23, 2013. Born November 8, 1945, he was the son of Charles and Jean (Bardy) Lawson. Jeff was a retired electrician from IBEW Local 481 where he worked 38 years. Jeff was a long-time baseball coach at Beech Grove Little League where he also served on the Board. It always amazed his family when former players would fondly speak of Coach Jeff decades after their days at the ball diamonds.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon (Boyer) whom he affectionately adored. Also surviving are their children, whom he was immensely proud, Mike (Leigh) Lawson and Shelley Lawson Wethington (Brad); and his grandchildren, Megan, Anthony and Nicholas Wethington & Eric and Julia Lawson; his sister, Kris (Lawson) Tygrett and brother, Steve (Linda) Lawson. His extended family includes brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews (two nieces still vying to be his favorite).
After retiring in 2003 Jeff kept busy performing odd jobs for others. Jeff spent a number of years doing service work for Tri Kappa’s annual Breakfast with Santa on whose Board Sharon has served for many years.
Jeff enjoyed spending the winter in Florida surrounded by close friends; and the summer at Sweetwater Lake in Brown County where he was surrounded by friends and extended family. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren rarely missing a baseball game, swim meet, kickball game or whatever activity they participated. His grandchildren loved and admired their grandfather. Much to Jeff’s delight they would often compete in giving their grandpa the strongest hug.
Those who knew Jeff were always drawn to his warm sense of humor. If life’s riches could be measured by laughter, Jeff was indeed rich. He shared many moments of laughter and jokes with his family that created endearing memories. From Christmas shopping with his beloved daughter Shelley to the friendly banter with his son Mike, Jeff forever brought joy to his family.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 28th at Little & Sons Funeral home – Stop 11 Chapel from 1:00 to 5:00 with services immediately following. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to The Lord’s Pantry at Anna’s House, PO Box 17104, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
