Obituary of Jesse L. Strong Jr.
Jesse “Big Jesse” Lee Strong, Jr. was born on May 14, 1946 to Alice Smith and James Arthur Young, Jr. in Covington, TN. He was adopted by Jesse Strong, Sr. Jesse attended and graduated from Frazier High School, in Covington, TN. After graduation, Jesse migrated to Nashville, TN, Chicago, IL, where he worked for a trucking company, and then made his home in Indianapolis, IN where he worked for the Kroger meat plant, where he worked for 30 years and Celadon trucking company, until retiring. Jesse not only had a passion for life, but his passion extended to his family, close friends, and his love for sports, particularly basketball. Jesse played basketball all the way up to 57 years old. After retiring , Jesse continued to take on a leadership role within the community and among family. Jesse enjoyed laughing, telling jokes, and seeing others laugh. Jesse loved helping others. No matter who, where, or what time it was; you could count on “Big Jesse”. Jesse will be missed for his sense of humor, zest for life, compassion for others his strength, and his perseverance. Jesse went home on Sunday, October 4th 2020, at the age of 74 years old. Jesse’s father, mother, and 4 brothers proceeded him in death. Jesse leaves to cherish in his loving memory his wife, Jeannette, daughters Tammy, Tracey, Jessica, Ronya, and Tyra; Son, D’Anthony, as well as grandsons Lateiz and Jeremiah. Jesse is also survived by his bothers Darrell (Bonita), Cornell (Patrica), Edward (Tracey), Fred (Kristin); sisters Pamela (Rob), Angela(Tony), Jeannie(David), Nadine, well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Funeral services are scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m., on October 24, 2020, at Crown Hill Funeral Home on 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Visitation will be for an hour prior from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Minister Dwight Holland will be the officiate. Flowers, donations/ Condolences will be offered at Crown Hill Funeral Home.
