

Joan was born on September 16, 1932 in Teddington, England to Charles and Mary Coxon. She met Frederick Petty, Jr while he was stationed in England serving in the US Air Force. They married in England on June 21st 1952. They moved to Indianapolis shortly after their marriage and were together 55 years until Fred’s passing in 2007.
Joan worked for years in the food service industry including Keystone Middle School and The University of Indianapolis. Joan enjoyed to travel, especially returning to her England home until travel became too difficult for her. She also enjoyed shopping and working in her flower garden.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her parents, Charles and Mary Coxon, her sister, Gwen Moncad and her brothers, Charlie and Arthur Coxon.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Patricia) Petty, and Steven (Peggy) Petty, her sister, Margaret Imran and grandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) Petty, Monica Hood, Martha (Jeff) O’Brien, Michael Petty and Lisa Stokes (Garrett) and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by niece Dianne Johnston and nephew Alan Imran of Indianapolis and nieces Carol Pady, Sandra Ostojic and Marie Muir and nephew Robert Coxon, all of England.
The family would like to thank the AsceraCare Hospice team whose care and support to Joan was such a comfort to us. Special thanks to the memory care staff at Grand Victorian for taking such good care of Joan over the past 5 months.

Services will be held at Little & Son’s Funeral Home, 4901 E Stop 11 Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46237, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026: Visitation from 11AM – 1PM, with service following at 1PM. There will be a celebration luncheon immediately following services for friends and family.
