Joan Suess

Joan Suess, 90, of Indianapolis, IN went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2021.

Joan was born on February 1, 1931 to Harold and Lillian (Arvin) Kroener in Evansville, IN. She grew up in Evansville and it is where she met the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Bill. They were married on December 26, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evansville, IN. In 1954, they moved to Indianapolis where they raised their five children. Joan worked alongside her husband for many years serving as the office manager for his law practice.

Joan loved to play games and solve puzzles. She could beat her entire family at Scrabble and completed the crossword puzzle in the newspaper every day. She also had a talent for art, loving to paint and draw. Joan was sociable and enjoyed getting together with friends and family often, including going with family members to Indianapolis Colts' games each fall for many years.

She was a devoted Catholic and active member of the Catholic community in Indianapolis, first as a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church and then St. Matthew Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Reitz Memorial Catholic High School in Evansville, IN.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lillian (Arvin) Kroener of Evansville, IN; and her beloved husband, William E. Suess.

Joan is survived by her sister, Jean Crouch of Louisville, KY; and her five children, Rebecca (Steve) Gress, Karen (Steve) Mitchell, William D. (Jayne) Suess, Barbara (Greg) Ham and Mary Lynn Suess. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 E. 56th St, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM also at the church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary.
