JoAnn accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age at Northside New Era Baptist Church and since has been a member of Grace Apostolic Church.
JoAnn graduated from Indianapolis Public Schools and completed college credits. She devoted 52 years full-time and then another part-time job in the field of Corrections and Criminal Justice at LaRue Carter Hospital, Volunteers of America, MCCC, Indiana Women's Work Release, HOCCS Correctional Service, Craine House, Inc. and Heritage Place, where she had a phenomenal love for her SENIOR COMPANIONS. JoAnn received numerous certificates and awards for her years of service. Even through her transition, she continued to be a blessing to others through organ donation.
"Gran" or "Grammy" as she was affectionately known was very supportive, caring, loving, and "What you see is what you get!" She was very much a leader..., a people person. "EVERYONE LOVED HER!" After her "3rd" retirement, Gran devoted all her time to her great-grand babies, who affectionately called her "G-G." She was babysitting her youngest G-G baby, whom she named "Bookie-Boo," who gave her a renewed lease on life! Gran will always be remembered for loving to spend time with her family, especially her "G babies" and her "G-G babies."
Up until her illness it was her honor to care for her Aunt Lucille Mosley, who succeeds her today at 101 years young.
JoAnn was joined in holy matrimony to Don Rice on April 19, 2013. They spent 30+ loving years together. JoAnn is preceded in death by Don, Geneva Davis, Virginia and Leroy Davis Sr., Samuel Davis and Leroy J. Davis Jr.
"Kandi" and "Sandi" were created and bonded through her marriage to James Wilson, which has led to generations of sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles.
JoAnn is survived by daughters Cecile (Kandi) Ward, Cassandra (Sandi) Williams (Terry); grandchildren, Kia Paicely, Tori Williams (Natasha), Timothy Williams, Kiandra Lawrence; great-grandchildren Ta'Keyah Harmon, D'Andre, Tye, Destiny, Djion, Anijah, Aliveah Paicely, Linnea Murphy and Brian White. Also her extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Andrea Cummings (Cory), Anthony Jones Jr. (Tosha), Jasmine Jones, Michael Cummings, Jolicia and Joe Ballard.
