

JOE completed his education at Crispus Attucks High School, Indianapolis, Indiana. JOE joined the United States Army, Airborne Division. He served during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge.
JOE was employed by the former Indianapolis Water Company, now known as Citizens Water. He was an Inspector and also served as the President of their Local Union. He retired after 30 years of service.
JOE returned to Indianapolis with a Love for Christ in his heart, a desire to learn about his word and an abiding faith, he joined Zion Tabernacle, 33rd and Arsenal Avenue, Indianapolis Indiana. He served under the late Founder and Pastor, Grover Cleveland Mills. He loved teaching others the word and would soon become Assistant Pastor of Zion Tabernacle Church. He later united with Church of The Living God P.G.T. #2. 46th and Emerson Avenue, Indianapolis, Indianapolis under Pastor Thomas Howard Sr. and
remained until his passing.
JOE truly enjoyed spending time and fellowshipping with his family. He loved the Sunday dinner the family had once a month. You would often hear him say, "Look at how God has truly blessed me, I prayed for this and God answered my prayer." He encouraged all his children to be entrepreneurs. He loved cars especially vintage ones. The most memorable car was his 1901 Ford. His latest car was his 1990 Cadillac Brougham, with only one owner and when he received it had 63,000 original miles on it.
JOE was united in Holy Matrimony, March 27, 1954 to the late Mazie Lee Carter. To that union they were blessed with five children, Jacqueline Elaine, Linda Jean, James Wayne,
Burt and Bart Dickerson.
JOE was united in Holy Matrimony to his loving wife Dorothy Johnson-Moorman September 8, 2011 and she remained by his side until his passing.
JOE departed this life, Saturday, October 14, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, bothers, Robert Dickerson, James Dickerson, Mac Ivory Washington, sisters, Maggie Dickerson Turnley, Alberta Dickerson Dowlen, Johnnie Mae Washington Watkins, son, James Wayne Dickerson, grandson, D'Andre Jimpson.
He is survived by daughters, Jacqueline E Henderson, Linda J Winston (Duncan) Joy Jimpson (Andre'). Sons Burt Dickerson (Tonya) Bart Dickerson, William "Chubby" Rowan and Jeremy Moorman. Brother James Roy Washington (Maureen). 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and 2 great great great grandchildren soon to arrive in a few weeks. A host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
