John Douglas Jr.

John attended Indianapolis Public Schools and proudly graduated from Broad Ripple High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a longtime member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. He later united with Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon.

On July 3, 1954, John married the love of his life, Hazelene McGee. Together, they built a loving family and were blessed with five children: Doris, John III (Bo), Marcel (Moochie), Michael, and Aaron.

John possessed a strong work ethic and believed in providing for his family through dedication and hard work. As a young man, he worked for STAR Service Station, Oberholster, and he also worked as a farmer in Greencastle, Indiana. In 1963, he began a long and fulfilling career with Ford Motor Company, retiring in 2005 after 42 years of dedicated service.

John understood the value of hard work, but he also knew how to enjoy life. He was an avid reader who enjoyed sports, traveling, western movies, and his favorite snack, popcorn. Above all, John loved his family, whom he considered one of his greatest blessings. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend, he will be remembered for his loving and generous spirit and his wonderful sense of humor.

John departed this earthly life on September 14, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Douglas, Sr. and Nancy Lucille Williamson-Russell.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Hazelene; his beloved children, Doris (Larry) Dehoniesto, John Douglas III, Marcel Reed, Michael (Rene) Douglas, Sr., and Aaron (Ingrid) Douglas; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Grant Russell; sister, Patricia Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held on September 22, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life on September 22, 2026, beginning at 12:00 pm.
