My sincere condolences to all. A lot has been said about Johnny (all true). Nothing can replace him and he will be missed terribly.
I always enjoyed working with Johnny years ago and have fond memories of him.

My name is Ron  Beasley and I am a retired MCSDDeputy. Even though I never knew “John”, he is still my brother and it breaks my heart to hear about what happened to him.
When I first joined the MCSD, I too, worked in the jail(the old one built in the 1800’s) and I had to walk through inmates to use a key/clock to prove the “cell” was secure. I just feel that whatever John was doing at that time, he felt, was necessary. God Bless him for his efforts. R.I.P.

Know John Durm worked on the MCSD the same time I did and I do believe he now lives in Sun City, Fl.

I did not know Johnny but am so deeply saddened by his passing. He was a hero to so many and through his acts of kindness, I’m certain his life touched mine in some way. I pray that in the coming days you will find comfort in the memories of the times you shared as a family. You are loved.

From someone who shares your pain I want to send prayers your way for comfort, peace that only comes from God. From what I read about  John he was a devoted family man. That is a memory you will always have. Treasure that and share that with your loved ones. As a jail deputy myself I can relate to the devotion to your work and the service to your community. Words cannot begin to express how sorry I am for your family’s tragic loss. It’s been many, many years, but I remember “Johnny’s “ infectious smile and kind spirit from the family visits and our short time shared at Ball State.  I am thankful and honored to have known him. May the memories you treasure and the love, prayers, and support from so many bring you peace and comfort.

As a resident of Indiana, I pay my full respect to the service and sacrifice of Sir. May his tribe increase and God blesses his family and loved ones each and every moment of their lives. Please know that we salute him and his work and will cherish him forever. 



Prayers go out to Deputy Durm’s family and all the lives he has touched. He was truly a kind and genuine person loved by family, friends, and colleagues. Rest easy John and job well done sir. 

I've worked for the Marion County Sheriff's Office for 21 years and I've known Johnny and Ramona for 20 of those years. The best memories are of Johnny's smile and silly jokes. The best thing about the jokes were listening to Johnny laugh at his own jokes (that weren't that funny..lol). He was one of the sweetest Deputies at the MCSO and always had a positive attitude. He treated everyone including the inmates with respect and kindness. He will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with Ramona, his sons, his family and his MCSO family. Rest easy Johnny and God be with all who loved you.

Johnny was one of the first deputies I met when I joined the department. Worked with him a few times over the years and played golf with him once. He was always fun to be around and loved joking around. He was friendly to everyone and a wonderful person to be around. 

Deepest sympathies to the Durm family and the MCSO family as well.

Another brother lost to senseless violence. Johnny was a true character but also had a big heart and a helping hand. Never a dull moment, Johnny had a flair for bad jokes, smart ass comments but was always there to assist, to quell situations and help motivate and stay positive. He played in a number of my birthday golf tournaments. I’ve worked with both Johnny n Ramona and they are both genuine in their work ethic and their personalities. Loved reading about their off day adventures. Sigh. Thoughts n prayers to the Durm family.

Devastated…
Johnny, had so many interest and loves, but nothing made him light up like Ramona and their boys. 
…God please help us all, but especially help, comfort and guide this family that lost what was so precious it can never be replaced.

Any time I would see John get off the elevator at the Jail or just walking past me, I knew he would stop by to crack a joke or just to talk. I looked up to John so much because he was genuinely a good person. (I could spot a fake, a mile away). Ramona would tell me to ask John about his cats. When I would he would just roll his eyes and laugh, and then would ask "Ramona told you to ask me about them didn't she?" John was taken away from so many of us that cared so deeply for him. We are all suffering from this loss, and we will miss him greatly. Goodbye Brother John. We love you!

My condolences to the Durm family. I'm a retired deputy and worked with both John and Ramona. He was a wonderful man, always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed by all. Sending prayers.

I was honored to have worked with John at paper art.  Jim worked there also.  We had fun.

You will truly be missed! The motivation you had to keep pushing through these years are incredible. I enjoyed laughing with you and working with you almost everyday. Rest now, Rest in Paradise.

He was S333 to me. Always pleasant on radio. Joking or making silly comments in MSG'S .

I always enjoyed his jokes every morning he came through our intake area, he always could tell when someone was having a bad day too and would make sure to add in an extra joke or two just to make sure he would get a smile out of you.  I hope you are resting easy and watching over us all as we make sure to honor you in our day to day lives, I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers each and every day.  We all miss you and will always miss you.

My sincere condolences to Deputy John Durm's family. He seemed like a very nice guy who loved serving his community.

I cannot believe this happened. John was a great Deputy, but more than that he was a great man. He is one I missed after I retired. He never deserved this. I think he should be out on the links somewhere. God bless him.
